Zinc & Etch Primer in Essex
Not every job is as simple as prep, coat, cure. Some substrates and some environments need an extra layer of protection before the topcoat ever goes on, and that's where zinc and etch primers come in. At Eurotech, we apply both as part of our powder coating process, right here in Essex, whenever a job calls for it.
What is zinc and etch primer?
Etch primer and zinc-rich primer are both applied the same way as any powder coating, as a fine, dry powder using an electrostatic charge, then cured in an oven so it bonds firmly to the metal. The difference is what they're designed to do once they're there.

Why would a job need it?
Etch primer is used on substrates that are naturally difficult for powder to grip, like galvanised steel, aluminium, or other zinc-coated metals, giving the topcoat something to properly key into. Zinc-rich primer goes a step further, offering sacrificial corrosion protection, similar to the way galvanising works, which matters a great deal in harsh or exposed environments.
Does every job need it?
No, most jobs go straight to topcoat without it. Primer is used where the substrate demands it, or where a project needs extra corrosion protection beyond what Polyester Powder Coating or Epoxy Powder Coating alone would offer.

Our Zinc & Etch Priming Facilities
Everything happens in-house, across our Essex sites, as part of the same process that takes a part from metal preparation through to a fully cured finish. Where a job calls for zinc or etch primer, it's applied and cured before the topcoat goes on, so the whole build, primer and finish, is handled under one roof.

Every piece that comes through our line goes through the same quality process, regardless of whether primer is involved: visual inspection, coating thickness measurement, and spot adhesion testing, before it's carefully packaged to avoid any damage in transit.
Applications of Zinc & Etch Primer
Because it's about protection rather than appearance, zinc and etch primer tends to show up wherever the substrate or the environment demands it.

Galvanised and zinc-coated steel: structures and fabrications where the topcoat needs a properly keyed surface to bond to.
Aluminium components: parts that are naturally resistant to standard powder adhesion without an etch primer first.
Structural steelwork in exposed or coastal environments: projects where added corrosion protection matters as much as the finish itself.
High-specification or long-life projects: anything where the client needs assurance the coating will hold up well beyond the standard warranty period.

Why Essex Manufacturers Choose Eurotech?
We've been powder coating in Essex since 2000, and in that time we've learned exactly when a job needs the extra protection a primer offers, and when it doesn't, which is exactly the kind of judgement that comes from experience.
Combine that experience with in-house metal preparation, ISO 9001 accreditation, and our own collection and delivery fleet, and you've got a genuinely end-to-end service, all under one roof.
