4 Stage Degrease & Pretreatment Plant, Essex
A powder coated finish is only ever as good as what it's bonded to, and that's the whole reason pretreatment exists. Before a single part reaches our powder coating line, it passes through our 4 stage degrease and pretreatment plant, right here in Essex, so the surface is properly prepared to hold a finish that lasts.
What happens during the 4 stage process?
The process starts with a degrease and zirconium phosphate stage, removing oils, contaminants, and residue from the metal surface. From there, parts go through two de-ionised hot water rinses, one of which incorporates an inhibitor to prevent flash rust, before finishing with a trivalent chrome conversion stage.

Why does pretreatment matter so much?
Powder coating bonds to whatever surface it's applied to, so any contamination, oil, or corrosion left behind gets sealed in rather than removed. A proper pretreatment stage is what gives the coating something clean and stable to bond to, which is what determines how well it adheres and how long it lasts.
What makes our pretreatment process different?
We produce our own de-ionised water in-house, tested to ensure the highest purity, rather than relying on standard mains water. It's a small detail most customers never see, but it's exactly the kind of detail that affects how consistent and durable the final finish turns out to be.

Our Pretreatment Facilities
Everything happens in-house, across our Essex sites, as the first stage in the same process that takes a part through to a fully cured powder coated finish.
Our 4 stage plant runs the same way for every job that passes through it, so the quality of the prep is never left to chance, whether it's a single part or a full production run.

Every piece that comes through our line goes through the same quality process afterwards too: visual inspection, coating thickness measurement, and spot adhesion testing, before it's carefully packaged to avoid any damage in transit.
What This Process Prepares Your Metal For:
A thorough pretreatment stage is what makes the rest of the process possible, and it matters across every type of job we take on:
Mild and standard steel components: parts that need contamination fully removed before any coating can properly bond.
Long-life and outdoor projects: work where corrosion resistance needs to be built in from the very first stage, not just the topcoat.
High-specification and trade work: jobs where consistency matters, since a controlled, repeatable pretreatment process is what keeps every batch to the same standard.

Multi-stage finishes: projects using Zinc & Etch Primer before a polyester or epoxy topcoat, where proper pretreatment is what allows every layer to bond correctly.

Why Essex Manufacturers Choose Eurotech?
