Shot Blasting in Essex
Some substrates need more than a chemical pretreatment to get them ready for coating, particularly where there's heavy corrosion, scale, or an old coating to remove. For those jobs, we offer shot blasting as part of our service, giving parts a completely clean, textured surface before they move on to powder coating.
What is shot blasting?
Shot blasting is a mechanical process that fires abrasive media at high speed against a metal surface, stripping away rust, mill scale, old paint, or coatings right down to bare metal. It also leaves behind a slightly textured surface profile, which gives the powder coating something better to key into.

Why would a job need shot blasting rather than standard pretreatment?
Chemical pretreatment is excellent at cleaning a surface, but it isn't designed to strip heavy corrosion or remove an existing coating. Where a part has significant rust, pitting, or old paint that needs to come off entirely, shot blasting is the only way to get back to a genuinely clean substrate before anything else can happen.
Do we carry out shot blasting yourselves?
Not in-house, no. We partner with a trusted local shot blasting company, which means we manage the entire process on your behalf, coordinating collection, blasting, and onward pretreatment and coating, so you still get a single, seamless service without having to deal with a separate supplier yourself.

Shot Blasting in Essex
Once a part has been shot blasted, it comes straight back to us to continue through pretreatment, whether that's our 4 Stage Degrease & Pretreatment Plant or 3 Stage Immersion Tanks, and on to the final powder coated finish.
You deal with one point of contact throughout, even though the blasting itself happens off-site.

Every piece that comes through our line afterwards goes through the same quality process: visual inspection, coating thickness measurement, and spot adhesion testing, before it's carefully packaged to avoid any damage in transit.

When Shot Blasting Is the Right Call:
Shot blasting tends to come into play wherever a surface needs more than a standard clean before coating:
Heavily corroded or rusted steel: parts that have been exposed to the elements and need to be brought back to bare metal.
Refurbishment and recoating projects: components with an existing coating or paint that needs to be fully removed first.
Structural and fabricated steelwork: larger parts where mill scale needs stripping before any pretreatment can be effective.
Restoration work: older parts or equipment being brought back into service, where a fresh, clean substrate is essential.
